I am trying to get away from using so many plastics and spinnerbaits, even though they've been working great.

I have some rat-l-traps and husky jerks, but what exactly are rip baits? I was thinking this is probably just the method in which someone would fish a regular crankbait. Is this correct? If so how would you fish a rip bait?

Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Hey Stevo if it isn’t broke then don't fix it. Its always great to learn a new technique. I try to learn 2 every year...if spinner baits and plastics work then use them but experiment in certain conditions to see what works in what...I think a rip bait and jerk bait are basically the same technique depends on what part of the country your from I guess...if im wrong please correct me anyone :?:

Stevo,

Classic ripbaits are the minnow style crankbaits (long and slender)... they're fished at a rapid, herky jerky retrieve where you pull the rod tip back to "rip" the bait through the water, reel in the slack, and "rip" again until the bait is back at the boat.

The TW guys sell some great ones among them being the Lucky Craft Pointer (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageHDRLUCKY-LCPT.html).

Check out their Hard Bait (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/hardbaits.html) section and scroll down to the list of "Rip Baits".
