Twice a year I have a ritualistic fishing trip with an old friend to the Housatonic River in Cornwall CT. It's a great river full of smallies and trout. I typically concentrate on the smallies as the trout are delicate and we are catch and release. Well this past fall while fishing the smallies werent active as food was plentiful so I decided to tie on a white rooster tail. First cast about 6 or 7 monster trout followed my lure. This went on for a while but none ever touched the lure so I moved down stream a few feet to work the current behind some rocks. Almost instantly I got snagged. I could not free the lure. I was a little annoyed because trying to get down stream of the snag was going to be a major rock hopping feat.
Finally the little woman convinced me to do it. Several minutes later I get slightly down stream of the snag and my line begins to move... Then it hit me..holy crap I wasnt stuck but I had hooked a big brown trout who was just staying put.

We later learned that the state had quietly dropped off these monsters several days earlier
