I was wondering what you guys thought was a good rod and reel for flipping in the $300 range. There is so many out there that I am having a hard time choosing.
Thanks,
Stephen

I picked up a 7-foot, Kistler Magnesium Frog Rod and a 7.0:1 Quantum Accurist (burner) flippin' reel on EBAY. The reel was around $80 (compared to its retail of $100 and the rod was around $85 (compared to its retail of $140). I had to pay shipping on both items.
I have not used them yet and bought them solely on price and the reviews I've read.
The Accurist has a flipping switch. Other reels, like the Ardent Denny Brauer Signature F-700 and the the Shimano Castaic Super Free do also. There might be more.
For flippin', you might want a longer rod than 7 feet. I have read you need a firm rod. The rod I bought is heavy/fast.
Hope someone with a greater knowledge chimes in. There is a lot of info on the internet. Call up Tackle Warehouse, Bass Pro Shops or cabellas on speak with their customer reps.

Good question here Stephen and you definitely did the right thing by putting a price range on what you are looking for. So lets see if I can help you out.
I'll start out with the reels. There are alot of good reels in the price range you are looking for and I have tried out most all of them. The best that I have found so far is the Shimano Calcutta's. Many people over look these reels nowadays b/c of the high speed reel trend but these reels are awesome for flipping. They are the toughest reels on the market bar none and for me when I'm flipping heavy cover that is what counts most. I use them for every situation, lay downs, grass, punchin, you name it. I have not yet found another reel that can handle the abuse of flippin or has the power of the calcutta in the same price range. I have recently started trying out the Ardent F500 & F700's. I like to buy American when I can! So far they seem pretty good but I haven't used them enough yet to really determine the toughness.
Now for the rods. I don't know what length rod you are comfortable with but I use rods closer to the 8 ft length. Quantum's Greg Hackney series ($150) is a nice rod with a parabolic bend and alittle lighter tip making it more accurate for flippin than some others, if you have ever used a revolving guide rod the Quantum Gary Klein rod ($150) is pretty nice but it is quite a bit stiffer than Greg's rod, another rod that alot of people over look b/c of the price is the Team All Star 7'10" rod (approx $90) but trust me it is a very solid rod with a good tip and plenty of back bone. I have not tried out the new Lamiglas Excel flippin rod yet ($120) but I had one of the 8' Certified Pro Rod a couple of years ago and loved it. I am anxious to try it out and if it is nearly as good as the other rod, I will own more than one of them. Another good thing to me is that it is American made.
Well here are a few suggestions, hope they help.

Revo SX-HS, STX-HS, or Curado 200E7 to go on either a Powell Max or Abu Veritas rod. Get a H power rod in the 7-8' range in whatever length you're comfortable with & you should be good.
