I have a private pond that i have the privelage to fish in an upper class gated community here in NC. I got permission to fish this pond last year and spent the first summer trying to figure these bass out, they wouldnt bite for nothing, and the amount of vegetation limits many cranks and gives you a time even with a jig. so i did some research and ran across drop shotting! Man this is the best worm fishing i have ever tried! I used a 7' mh berkley lighting rod, quantum catalyst 7 to 1 ratio baitcast with 15lb seaguar flourocarbon line, 1/4 oz drop shot and a black saphire blue zoom trick worm on 3/0 gamagatsu ewg hook, now let me tell you i have fished this pond for a year and up until this point had only caught like 4 fish, so i cast this rig out and work it back really slow just like ol Skeet said to on youtube, and then i feel it that tell tell thumping, reel down and sweep back into a stout hook set, and immediatly the fish takes about 20 ft of line out with little effort, i give the drag acouple clicks and work the fish in, 23 in, 8lb 7oz large mouth! I was amazed, caught two more in less than 45 min, 4lb, and one about 6! what a wonderful way to fish, the more i thought about it, i had to go back today and try it out again, so i take half a day off work and hit the pond around 11, within an hour and a half i bagged 4 more large mouth all in that 4 to 6 lb range! to date now i have caught about 17 bass from this 40 year old farm pond 1 fish about a 1lb the rest all are over 4 biggest being the 8 lber! Morale of the story is keep up the confidence and dont be afraid to try something different, being open minded helped me figure these bass out, and im loving every minute of it! I tried to upload images of some of these monsters but the files are to large.
