Hello,
I'm Jeroen from Belgium and I'm planning to buy a new G-loomis rod but I find it hard to choose since I have to buy it on-line (tacklewarehouse).
Here in Belgium there are no shops that sell G-loomis so I can't "feel" the rod before I'm buying it.
Therefor if anyone could give me some practical advice/experience I would be very grateful!!
I'm going to use the rod for pike fishing in Europe with lures such as 1.5oz grinder spinnerbaits, not too large bucktails, creature baits, etc...
I was thinking about the 3/4-11/2oz spinnerbait rod (7'2") or else the 1/2-11/2 light bucktail muskie rod (7'2").
Important for me is that the rod is not too heavy for even small pikes (I bought a shimano compre muskie rod before and it feels like a pool-cue)
What do you guys think is a good choice?
Thank you very much in advance!
Jeroen

I actually have the 864 (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage.html?PCODE=GLSBCR) and like it a lot for throwing big blades. I've also used it for spoons and spider jigs, usually 3/4oz. Unfortunately in order to throw those 1 1/2oz baits you need a pretty stout rod. You might be able to use the 6'9" MH (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage.html?PCODE=GLSBCR), but I think the 1oz-1 1/2oz would be a bit much. Your other option would be to go with a rod that has a more parabolic action. A lot of the crankbait rods can handle up to 1oz. But for me when I'm throwing blades I prefer a rod with some backbone but a light tip to feel the blades pulsing. You might want to take a look at some of the "Bounce Back Style rods like the Big Bait GL2 964 8' Heavy (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageRDCGLOOMIS-GLBG2CR.html). If it was me I would go with the Loomis 864 7'2" Heavy (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage.html?PCODE=GLSBCR), it's a stout rod but I wouldn't consider it a broomstick. If your looking for something a little softer go with the Loomis GL3 845 7' Extra Heavy (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageRDCGLOOMIS-GLBG2CR.html).

i have just purchased an imx 6,6 mbr783 and like it very much for casting shad rap/zolt sized crankbaits,i have coupled this with a morrum sx1600c reel which is top draw but feels a little smallish to me as ive always used a 521xlt or 5601c sized reel but wanted to decrease weight .does any one have any suggestions,is a curado 201 or calcutta 201/251 the better choice, what do you bass heads think.are these any better or worse than my morrum florel.

get a loomis catalogue from loomis, send them an email telling them what your casting and ask under technical questions.then check out products on ebay.remember that a loomis rod that is rated for 10 to 17lb line and lures up to 3/4 oz are what we in uk and europe would be happy casting a little bit more with say 1 oz or supershad sized lures.have you checked out new fox range of lure rods, theyre the business, although it is nice to have the loomis rod for a treat.i like imx ,gl2 not as nice.only snag with loomis is the non contoured handles dont look as nice as st croix.new powell rods look superb but i havent seen one in the flesh, will handle the baits you describe though.
