I zeroed out at the swamp pond yesterday...saw two gators but no Bass. I didn't know whether to try it again today but am I glad I did.
Partly cloudy, warm(mid-80s), clear water, and sunny with a high wind gusts off-and-on during the day. Fished for an hour or so with no bites and I was thinking I should have tries another pond. I saw another gator and wondered if it had scared the Bass and had kept them tight-to-cover.
I threw two spinnerbaits, pitched a Paca Craw, and last-but-not-least, a grey-colored Sinking Fool bait made by Fishin-n-Fool(Rick). That bait was all I got bit on and it's a keeper. In some ways, I believe it's superior to the venarable Senko.
It is an oval(ovoid?) shape with a tapered body that is more flat than round. It can be skittered across the surface or you can just let it sink which is what I was doing today when I got bit. All three Bass were shallow but took the bait as it sank. It's the easiest bait to fish I've tried as you literally have to do nothing but cast it out there. It twitches back with more body movement than my Senkos do.
Thank you Rick! Btw, these S/Fs were from a pack you gifted me a year or two ago. Ironically, I had one of my fishing shirts on that has a Yamamoto patch sewn on.
