I'm in SanDiego 27. So depending on your lakes if anything like ours you're in for a treat :( These lakes here suk! Other than Lake Cuyamaca by Julian I believe they do suk. With a big S. I spent most of last season and the opener here at Jennings. Stumped!! Lake Cuyamaca is awesome! 3hrs. there and I caught 3(bows) to 2.5lbs. a catfish and a blugill. They were caught on a partial nightcrawler( cut in half or thirds) dipped in Krill juice. pegged on a sz. 14-16 gold treble. 4lb. test Berkeley XL. green or clear. You could use a 2lb. leader 1-4ft. if the fish'ns tuff. Do I hear Fluor?
This is all on a UL parabolic rig. I'm using a 5'6" Clarus rod. The one bow I did catch on a lure was peggged on a RoosterTail this one has a basket like area where one can load it with powerbait and go at it. RainbowGlitter and GreenGlitter seem to be the 2 best choices. With the Green ahead a little at least at Jennings or so they say
The other methods llike trolling lead line bobber fishing are not in my repetoire as of yet.
Hoow this helps some? As far as where is there habitat and what structure they like dunno, I just look for water and more water.
tnx,

I do lots of trout fishing and even manage to catch a few from time to time. I'm in the Central Sierra Foothills. I prefer spin fishing and I fish both streams and some high-country lakes. I chase both rainbows and browns.
There's a lot of different possibilities. For instance, I use different gear, bait and techniques in fishing streams or in fishing lakes. What part of CA are you in? Any plans on where you'll fish?
