Hello,

I am new to the site, and somewhat new to fishing, aka using casting reels/rods. Me and my friends usually fish in rivers from shore, and I was wondering if using a casting reel in the river is a "normal" thing. Will I have to worry about my line continually drifting with the current, or will my bait stay in place as with a spinning reel. If not, are there any cast reels that will stay put and not drift away. Thank you.

it shouldnt matter. your line is going to do the same thing regardless if you have a spinning or a casting reel

Where I fish, the river is about a mile wide and casting gear is a norm here. All depends on the situation: river width, river current, species in the river system (size of fish can make a difference aka Sturgeon).

I would stay with the spinning outfit if that is what you are comfortable using, but if experienced with baitcast outfits you can benefit from that.
