Winning Pattern:
Bain had a dependable early feed in a shallow, grassy pocket, but she failed to capitalize on a couple key bites the first morning. "I really didn't get the kind of start I was looking for," she said. "I had an hour or two every morning where I could get some good bites. That first morning I missed a couple and only got two keepers during that early bite."
She could move on from there and fill out her limit easily by throwing a wacky-rigged Reaction Innovations Flirt worm to suspended fish, but those fish lacked the weight she was looking for.
Winning Gear:
Trixie Shark gear: 7'1" heavy-action G.Loomis BCR 855 GLX rod, Pflueger President casting reel (6.3:1 ratio), 30-pound Hi-Seas Grand Slam braid (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageHSLINE-HSBG.html), 5/0 Gamakatsu EWG Superline (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage-GSOWG.html) hook, Reaction Innovations Trixie Shark (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage-RITSK.html) (white).
Wacky-rig gear: 6'10" medium-action G. Loomis DSR 822 spinning rod, Pflueger President spinning reel, 10-pound Hi-Seas Grand Slam braid (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageHSLINE-HSBG.html), 6-pound Hi-Seas fluorocarbon (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageHSLINE-HSFC.html) leader, 1/0 Gamakatsu Split Shot hook (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage-GSS.html), Reaction Innovations Flirt 4.95 (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage-RIFW.html) (Spanish fly).
She used a combination of three different crankbaits to cover different depths in her creek: a Bill Norman Deep Little N (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageHDCNORMAN-NSDLN.html) (sexy shad), a custom-painted Bandit 200 (splatter back), and a Lucky Craft Fat CB BDS 1 (http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageHDCLUCKY-LCFATBD.html) (splatter back).
