As some of you have read in my Tournaments post, I will be fishing lake Erie in September. I am stationed in Washington, and unfortunetly cannot get to know the lake before the tournament. (leave was denied)

How is this presented in deep, open water? Is it a vertical presentation, or casted out and let it hit bottom and slowly worked back in? I have a St. Croix mojo in 6'9ML and will be a dedicated rig. All answers to this are greatly appreciated, and I know some members here are guides, and please send me a PM here if I may contact you with further questions, or to take notes on what may work.

PS. I want to thank TW Staff for responding in such a quick manner, and for the advice on this body of water. It's nice to see some people still are willing to help others, and good fishing to all this year, and tight lines.

Open water drop shotting is dictated on boat position. If the boat is position over structure (rocks, reef, ship wreck, etc), vertical drop shotting is fine. Casting a drop shot rig obviously comes into play when the boat is position off the structure and the angler must cast into the strike zone. Make sure to have slack line on this presenation, the angler must shake the slack line and not shake the weight. By shaking the weight you maybe over working the bait. You can try both techniques, but let the fish tell you what presentation they like. I hope this helps.

TW Staff;

Thank you so much for all the advice on this topic. I know that the tournament isn't until September, but atleast I can say I was prepaired for it, regardless of how I finish.

You have got a customer for a long, long time now. Best wishes to all, and tight lines throughout the year!
