I 'am a flippin' and pitchin' junkie and I really like and feel comfortable using longer rod's. (8-8.5') I have had to start building my own rod's because there are to many rod's available that suit my needs and my fishing style. I find I get more hooksetting power at longer distances. Does tihs sound bizzare?

I agree that "longer is better" for those techniques but the longest rod I use is either the 7' or the 7', 6" Kistler Helium rod. With a TDZ reel, the whole 7' rig weighs less than 10 ounces.

yeah, i agree, there is a 7 foot 9 inch carrot stick that i use for most of my f&P, and i love it. it seems to me that its best to use the longest rod you can handle and cast with at the needed level of accuracy, almost no matter what technique.

I mainly use a 7ft MH rod for most of my pitching and flipping as I am a little on the shorter side and don't want a rod that is too huge for me to handle. You just need to find what you are comfortable with and stick with it.
