I'm keying with my numb, extended left forefinger wrapped up in a gauze bandage. Last cast of the day and I jammed a prong of a treble hook right a 1/2" into the crease where flesh meet's the fingernail. Had to go to our clinic where the female doc used Lidocol to numb it and then she wiggled it free. Got a tetanus shot too since it's been 40 years since my last one. I guess I better quit Bassin' before I do some permanent damage ;)
Got up to the low 70s today, no clouds, wind--off and on, and muddy water at the lowest level I've seen this pond at in 6 years.
Started out throwing the 8" T-rigged GY single Curly tailed Grub(color #196, Gambler 3/8 oz Rattlin' screw-in weight, and 5/0 Sugoi hook) Just about 20 minutes into Bassin' and I cast it up in front of three, side-by-side stumps in 8' of water and just let it sink to the bottom. Felt a light pick-up and set the hook in a 5.3 lb, 25" Bass. She surely looked heavier than that and at 25", well...........but I weighed her twice on one digital scale and once on another. Btw, look at the close-up pic and see that she's blind in the right eye.
Kept chunkin jig-n-pigs, cr/baits(had a 2+ lber shake loose at the boat when I went to lift her in), w/r'd Senko(one dink), and topwater with nothing much to show for it. I tied on a new-to-me Bait, a Bettancourt Real Fish Bluegill and got bit on it right in front of the boat. Landed a 1.7 lb, 18" Bass for the first time with that swimbait/cr/bait.
5.3 lbs (http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=139863&anum=3382)
